We Value

Wonder and Mystery

…who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. (1 Timothy 6:16)

The only proper response to a revelation of the infinite God is awe filled worship, and the One who cannot be reduced to a simple system also cannot be adequately worshipped through mindless repetition. Instead we submit the whole of our hearts, minds, and bodies to him and constantly seek the filling of his Spirit and communion with his Son.

Down-to-earth Spirituality

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us… (John 1:14)

In Jesus, the transcendent God took on human form to make God known and to redeem our bodies. As such, we reject an ethereal faith and seek to serve Jesus in the time, location, and body in which he has placed us.  We recognize both the authority of his concrete written word and the need to faithfully translate that word into a language our culture understands.

Warts 'n All Community

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. (1 Peter 4:8)

Jesus saves each of us, while we are still his rebellious enemies, into a life-long process of being conformed to his image as part of his family, and so we strive to be a loving community of openly flawed and struggling people seeking growth.  We will neither leave a person because of their sins nor be content to leave them in their sins.

Functioning in Team

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace (1 Peter 4:10)

Jesus grows his church through each one using our gifts for the benefit of others. We reject the creation of either an exalted special ministry class or a mass of people whose primary role is consumer. Instead we each seek every opportunity to serve and build one another up in love.

Creativity in Everything

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)

Our Father, the creator God, has shaped a word of seemingly limitless variation and beauty to reflect his glory. So we too, while happily grounded in a great stream of Christian tradition, constantly seek new and varied ways to reflect his eternal truth.

Out in the real world

As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. (John 17:18)

As Jesus was sent into the world by his Father to do his will, so too have we been sent by Jesus.  As such, we strive to be his ambassadors and proclaim his gospel as active and positive contributors in the life of our city and the people around us. We seek to emulate the historical Church and God himself as faithful advocates for the poor and disenfranchised in the world.
